Ingredients
Scale
- 2 shots of espresso (about 2 ounces) or 1/2 cup of very strong brewed coffee
- 3/4 cup extra creamy oat milk
- 1 cup ice cubes
- 2 tablespoons homemade apple brown sugar syrup (1/2 cup apple juice, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, pinch of nutmeg)
- Optional: Caramel sauce or a sprinkle of cinnamon for garnish
Instructions
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the apple juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 5 minutes until the sugar has dissolved and the liquid has slightly thickened. Remove from heat and let it cool completely before using.
- Brew two shots of your favorite espresso or 1/2 cup of concentrated strong coffee. If you prefer a smoother taste, allow the coffee to cool slightly so it doesn’t immediately melt the ice in the next step.
- Take a tall glass and fill it to the top with ice cubes. Drizzle two tablespoons of your prepared apple brown sugar syrup directly over the ice. If you like a sweeter drink, feel free to add an extra splash of syrup at this stage.
- Pour the oat milk into the glass over the ice and syrup. You will see the syrup settle at the bottom while the milk turns a beautiful creamy white. Leave about an inch of space at the top for your coffee.
- Slowly pour the espresso or strong coffee directly over the center of the milk. Because of the density of the liquids, the coffee should sit on top of the milk, creating the signature “stained” macchiato look. Garnish with an optional drizzle of caramel or a dash of cinnamon.
