  • Total Time: 35 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
  • Sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Prep and Season the Chicken – Pat the chicken pieces dry with a paper towel to ensure the coating sticks properly. In a medium bowl, season the chicken pieces with salt and black pepper, tossing well to coat evenly.
  2. Step 2: Create the Coating Station – Set up three shallow bowls. Place the cornstarch in the first bowl, the beaten eggs in the second bowl, and the all-purpose flour in the third bowl. This sequential coating is the secret to maximum crispiness.
  3. Step 3: Bread the Chicken Pieces – Dredge each piece of chicken in the cornstarch, shaking off the excess. Dip it into the egg wash, and finally coat it thoroughly with the flour. Place the breaded chicken on a wire rack or plate until ready to fry.
  4. Step 4: Fry the Chicken to Golden Brown – Heat about an inch of oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once the oil is shimmering, fry the chicken in batches for 3-5 minutes per side until they are golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  5. Step 5: Simmer the Honey Garlic Sauce – In a separate small saucepan or the emptied skillet, combine the honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, apple cider vinegar, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a simmer over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  6. Step 6: Toss and Garnish – Add the crispy fried chicken back into the skillet with the sauce. Toss gently until every piece is completely glazed. Serve immediately while hot, garnished with sesame seeds and green onions.
