Ingredients
Scale
- 2 slices of whole wheat or white sandwich bread
- 2 tablespoons creamy or crunchy peanut butter
- 1 tablespoon strawberry or grape jelly
- 1/2 cup fresh grapes
- 1/4 cup mild cheddar cheese cubes
- 5–6 baby carrots
- 1 star-shaped cookie cutter (approximately 3–4 inches wide)
Instructions
- Place your two slices of bread on a clean cutting board. Take your star-shaped cookie cutter and press it firmly into the center of each slice of bread. Press down hard to ensure the cutter goes all the way through the crust. Remove the outer crusts and set the two bread stars aside.
- Using a butter knife or a small spatula, spread the peanut butter evenly across one side of the first bread star. Make sure to get the peanut butter into the points of the star for maximum flavor in every bite.
- Carefully spread the jelly over the peanut butter or on the second bread star. If you spread it on the second star, it helps prevent the jelly from sliding off. Use enough to cover the surface but avoid overfilling so it doesn’t leak out the sides.
- Place the two bread stars together, filling sides facing each other. Gently press down on the sandwich to help the layers stick together. This ensures the sandwich stays intact inside the bento box.
- Place the star sandwich into the largest compartment of your bento box. In the smaller compartments, add the grapes, cheese cubes, and baby carrots. Ensure the lid fits tightly to keep everything fresh until lunchtime.
